In addition to providing a broad range of the most effective and helpful Individual, Couples, and Family Therapies, there are a number of important specialized services our clinicians offer for those who are in need. We begin by providing a thorough evaluation of your needs to determine what services will benefit you most. A good diagnostic evaluation is the first step to creating an individualized treatment plan.
From the moment of your first contact with us, we will work with you to determine what level of care you may require. You will be invited in for an initial consultation, where we begin a collaborative process of understanding what your difficulties are and how we can help.
A key element of any evaluation is a good differential diagnosis. This is the foundation of creating a treatment plan that is tailored to your needs, comprehensive in scope without unnecessary procedures. Our clinicians are well trained diagnosticians who have worked on inpatient, outpatient and research settings, and have a wide range of first-hand clinical expertise.
Sometimes you have received a diagnosis or treatment plan and wonder whether it is accurate and appropriate. Sometimes you have been in treatment, made some progress, but hit a plateau and wonder if there is more progress you could make. These are situations when a consultation may be helpful. Come in with your questions and concerns, and we will try to find answers. These consultations usually require an evaluation and contact with your treatment provider in order to be most helpful.
Undiagnosed learning disabilities or memory problems can often appear as changes in mood, behavior, or interpersonal difficulties. Frequently these can be misdiagnosed as psychiatric disorders. This can lead to long treatments, sometimes with medication, with little improvement. Additionally, children often “misbehave” as the first sign of a learning disability. Psychological and Neuropsychological testing can often reveal these underlying learning or attention issues, and therefore allow for more appropriate treatment to occur.
The latest advances in non-medication treatment of a variety of disorders, including ADD/ADHD, show that neurofeedback and biofeedback are effective alternative treatments. A Quantitative EEG and “brain map” procedure can identify the areas of the brain that should be targeted for treatment, making the neurofeedback even more efficient. A thirty to forty session series of treatment has been shown to decrease and sometimes eliminate the need for stimulant medication in children with ADD/ADHD, improving attention in school and decreasing disruptive behaviors as measured on the Conner’s Rating Scales.
